I'd also suggest you try and personalise your forum a bit too as at the moment it is really just the basic free board most hosts provide.
Make sure you are using plenty of keywords for the site to help it be found in searches and tell all your friends about it to populate it a bit more. Put a link at the end of any emails you send out. Just get the word out any way you can really.
Give it a week or so... :)
Add your site to Google webmaster tools and get links to your website fro other website, that should speed the process up. Your site might be ranked poorly at the moment, but it'll pick up if you link to it. Try to avoid the normal article and directory submissions though, as the quality isn't always great.
google search 'site:javaforums.co.uk' or inurl:javaforums.co.uk to see what pages are indexed in google so far.
If you sign up to google analytics too, that will show you what keywords people searched for to find your website.
SnippetFact.com is a good source for links, it's a lot less effort to add a a few facts than write a whole article, and they tend to moderate crappy links, so it keeps quality up and will affect your website in a more positive way.
Hi Dan,
When did you create the website? Google can take quite a while to crawl and index new sites. My first piece of advice would be to sign up to Google/Bing webmaster tools. Here, you can index your site to Google/Bing (to let them know that it even exists) and set a crawl rate. It will also help you to check things like duplicated/missing title and meta tags, which are crucial to Google understanding what your website is about.
There are a few SEO options listed below in other answers, all of which i would agree with, but getting on to Webmaster Tools is absolutely crucial, so i would definitely start with this if you have not done so already!
Best of luck!
Hi there
It depends how "new" your site is! And also on the amount of optimisation and promotion you have done on your site.
Having typed in java forums into Google I see that there is 171 MILLION competing pages!! That is huge. To rank highly on Google for that will take one hell of a time. I also see that in the Google Keyword Tool (in phrase match) there are only 320 searches a month in the UK for java forums.
This leads me to ask - what is your plan regarding the website in terms of monetisation?
It seems like a whole lot of work for very little gain if you ask me - I have been doing SEO and website promotion for small businesses for 4 years!!
I wish you luck but I would suggest you ask yourself where you want to take your site and what your long term plans are
One page of your site is indexed by Google, since it may have found an empty forum when last visiting it may be slow to return, the definitive test for inclusion:
search for, Site:javaforums.co.uk
Professional site flippers will accelerate the development process by 'seeding' the site with paid participants or content scraped from similar forums, there are off the shelf scripts for this purpose, I don't know all of the legal implications.
The quickest way to get a new site indexed is 1) Submit your site map to google webmaster tools and 2) Use facebook and twitter as much as you can adding your link until it is indexed.

Good luck!
Get backlinks to your website and create easily indexed sitemap to your website and add it to Google webmaster tools.
start getting backlinks to your website by comment posting forums posting and web directory submission.
create a account in all the top social bookmarking sites and add your site to all the social bookmakring site.
I am sure if you do this your website will be indexed by the search engines easily.
You should make sure you submitted a sitemap to the search engines. Here is a good place to help with that: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/. Once the sitemap is submitted, you should also do link-building. Here is a good place for that: http://www.buildseo.net. Once that is all done, you should be showing on the search engines.
Adding a sitemap.xml file containing the list of pages you want to index and submitting it to Google Webmasters can help you for that.
it is normal for a new website....
when I make my 1st website it does not show on any search engine I think it takes 2 days before it shows up search engine (I'm not sure if it is 2 days only).....
Even if i type in the whole url 'www.javaforums.co.uk' nothing comes up at all, is it just that its right back thousands and thousands of pages because it is a new site ?
and
How do i get it listed on google, yahoo etc. ?
checked your meta tags and they are all empty

not very SEO friendly.
it would give you a little boost to have these for major search engines. dnt forget to submit to the search engines to get index.
