- info from a neighbor saying they were in your apartment is not proof. Since you don't go there everyday, they might have given you notice that you never received.
You should tell the landlord about the mold. But since the 30th is Tuesday, it would not be repaired by the time your lease is over.
You would file a claim with your renters insurance for your belongings.
1. You requested maintenance come in, so they could.
2. You vacated the unit, so they had the right to check on that.
3. You will basically never prove it was maintenance guy, you'll never get anything.
This is why when you move out you take your stuff.
The landlord likely thought you had abandoned the apartment.
You will have a really hard time proving the maintenance man did it. You might be covered under renters insurance.
If the "maintenance man" erroneously disposed of the property, you can request reimbursement from the apartment landlord - if you can substantiate the property and value of it.
talk to the landlord immediately. Take pictures of your apartment, so you have pix if anything else gets taken
I need help:
I physically moved out of my previous apartment September 1st. I paid Septembers rent because I had to pay my full years lease. I wont be turning in my keys until September 30. So technically the apartment is still mine until then. Well I get a call from one of my upstairs neighbors saying that my front door was wide open and had been for a couple of days. So I leave work to check and see if everything is still there. Its not, I am missing my bed frame (the whole thing, headboard and foot board) And Im missing 2 trash bags of my babys clothes and some of Dillon's clothes, that we left there to go pick up at a later time.Heres the other thing: I ALWAYS lock my doors, so the only person that could get in was the maintenance man. Which one of my other neighbors said he saw him in my apartment a few days after I left. I still own the apartment, and I'm 90% sure it was the maintenance man. I filed a police report. And he said if it were a staff member of the apartment complex that took the stuff, even just to throw it away, its still illegal and charges can be pressed. I don't want to put anyone in jail, i just want justice served.
Another part of the story. Back in July we had a leak from the people above us, we filled a maintenance request multiple times and they never fixed it. And I noticed when I went in there for the first time in a couple weeks that there is asperigillus mold growing on my ceiling.
