Offer to buy half my neighbour's drive?

Flats are usually leasehold in the UK, therefore the neighbor must confront her landlord before selling it. If she has bought the property, she can indeed sell it but I doubt it since most flats and maisonettes are leasehold.

In the US, it's the same thing. She must confront the landlord before selling the driveway as she's just a tenant, if the landlord agrees she may. If she buys, she may sell it to anyone she likes.

If she offers it to you, you have an entitlement to ask whether or not she may actually sell the drive and if she says "Yes, I've checked with my landlord". You MUST check just for clarification, she could be telling you absolute rubbish! She must be able to prove she has bought the home also, if she says she owns it.

This will be up to the owner of the property not the leaseholder. Selling the drive would cause massive problems when the lady wants to sell her flat in the future. it would have to be done through a Solicitor who will advise her on the future complications.

UK

In the U S people who live in the houses/apartments/units that are on a single drive usually have an easement. That means they have the right to use the driveway even though someone else owns it, but idk UK law.

An appraiser would have to give you a realistic price as a starting point, but the price can easily be higher.

In the UK flats are usually leasehold so your neighbour probably could not sell her drive.

If you can then the cost depends on the location which we do not know so we cannot possibly advise you.

What you should be requesting is an easement. Then you wouldn't lose it when property sells.

Would like an insight of how much I should offer my neighbour to add half the front drive to my share of the property or should should I ask her how much she would sell it for?

We just bought a first/second floor maisonette. The entrance to our property is via a side corridor so we don't share the front door. The front drive belongs to the ground floor maisonette. It's big enough to fit to cars comfortably. I've been advised that the downstairs lady does not own a car and has been happy to let upstairs residents use the drive.

I would like to offer to buy half the drive so we have a legal agreement and in the event of she changing her mind on being generous or sells her property we don't lose the privilege of parking in the drive. The road is the only without parking restrictions so gets busy.

Any suggestions/advice? Many thanks
