without knowing your niche it is not easy to tell which way is the best. i made a landing page that all of my member much go through. My forums is a car forums and i put car part ads on the landing page. It was a huge success because many order directly from the landing page
I think there are a few things you need to consider. Without seeing the website it is a bit difficult, but there are some basic principals you need to think of:-
1.) What is the % split between new and returning. This gives you an idea of content quality. If most of it is new traffic without many returns, then something simple like adsense, or skimlinks if you are using vbulletin. If it is a lot of returning traffic, then look at where they are focusing in the forum using google analytics in page tool. Then you target ads around that content of your forum.
2.) Are you able to create products for your members, that they would buy as members of the club?
3.) Do you have a lot of members, that you could send out targeted emails with product offers? normally this has the highest conversion rates
Having some basic adsense space on your forum anyway would probably work just because of the traffic. You could also channel market your adsense space.
