If you're not going to buy for 12 to 18 months, the homes you look at today will be gone. Go to www.realtor.com and look at homes and get a Realtor contact. Make sure you explain that you're not ready to buy but want to learn about the various neighborhoods.
What I would do is attend open houses in the area while I was there. I would chat with some agents and tell them that I am moving there in 2 years. This would function as an interview. Once I found an agent I liked and was comfortable with, I would contact them again and let them know that I would love to use them as an agent down the road. I would then keep in touch with them regarding the market.
6 months out, I'd start getting the agent actively looking and then 2-3 months out, I'd have an offer in on a house.
Why don't you just take virtual tours for the time being. No need to waste your time or others. It makes no sense to me why people ask these questions.
I am visiting Georgia next month - the Atlanta area.
I currently live over 1000 miles away from there now.
My fiancé and I are saving to buy a house - Atlanta is our target area, however it will not be for another 1.5-2 years. I just want to see the area and visit a lot first.
Since I am new to this and not sure how everything works exactly, if I want to see houses while I am there next month should I contact a real estate agent? Should I tell them I want to look and want advice/help but I have no intentions on buying for another 2 years? Should I just act interested completely as if I was going to put in an offer ASAP? Im sure they have people like this all the time who want to move to a new area and just visit first? I just don't want them to feel like I am wasting their time or that we aren't important since we wont even be purchasing for another 2 years (if at all)
How should I approach this?
Thank you
