After December is up, can I just leave? No lease was signed. Thanks
If you are in the UK a six month assured shorthold tenancy was automatically created. No written contract is required. You may leave early with the landlord's consent. However if he declines you are liable to pay until the end of the term.
Even though you pair your rent until the end of December..........you still have to continue paying or give a 30-day notice (the middle of November) and move out.
State law requires you to provide written notice even if you're a month-to-month renter. Google landlord-tenant law for your state.
Give written notice no later than December 1st stating that you will be moving out December 31st. Not having a lease makes no difference, you're a tenant and the law requires you give thirty days notice in writing.
You should always let your landlord know what's up, but if you've only paid to December, you wouldn't be expected to stay if you've made it clear that's all you're interested in. Just let them know what your plans are so they can plan accordingly to re-rent the place.
I payed 5 months rent, August though December at once and I'm wondering how long I have to stay here.
