Roommate's Damage?

Unless you can find him, sue him in small claims court and prove he did the damage, you are basically screwed. As the only person on the lease, you are the only person liable.

You'll have to sue him in small claims court for the money.

You are the only person on the lease, so you are liable for the damages. Be thankful the management didn't find out about him and then evict you for a lease violation.

You learn from your mistakes.

The landlord is certainly going to chase you - and legally you are 100% responsible.

A small claim is not likely to succeed, you see you let him stay on the "dont tell the landlord" scheme, courts do not support such actions, and even if you win (there is absolutely no way we could say if you will or will not win) but we can say in the event you do win, the court wont give you any money.

You can take him to civil court.

So I may have made a huge mistake and let a friend of mine move into my apartment with me. However, they just moved out after 6 months and I was informed by the apartment complex that their is like $700 worth of damage in the room (which was not technically leased to anyone since I was the only one in the apartment). On top of that they have not paid any of the utility bills or their portion of the rent. But here is the catch - the apartment doesn't know my friend lived there - I let him move in and kept it on the down-low so we split my rent and utilities. But now he has moved out, left damages in the room, i dont know where he moved to, and I'm being stuck with the bill because he never 'actually lived there'. Is there any way to make him pay for it or am I screwed?
