Should I sign this sublease agreement?

A lease doesn't give any of the signees rights over each other. It's a contract between signees and the landlord, with rights and responsibilities spelled out toward the landlord.

As long as you're aware how shared costs (e.g., heat, cable, internet, garbage, etc. ) are handled you're basically just swapping your name in for X. Ask all those who will be there what the deal is with shared costs, since that's often not covered in a lease, but by mutual agreement (which often falls into disagreement.) A separate contract might be necessary there, because the landlord doesn't give a **** how you do this - that's up to you to figure out.

You need to confirm that the landlord approves of the sublet situation and need additional approval of all lessees noted on the original lease. If not, Don't Get Involved!!! Good Luck

tell the landlord.....think about it....landlord wants his money.....two other people living there don't want to be evicted because a third of the rent isn't paid.....everybody living there can equally screw each other...email me more details...probably the lease does not permit sublets....if you sublet the only thing that can legally happen is the landlord can evict everybody....

If you don't sign, you are subject to changes. If you have a written agreement, then you do, and it must be abided by. Request that it be signed by A,B,X and Y if you like.

I UNDERSTAND THAT ANY RESPONSE ON THIS FORUM DOES NOT CONSTITUTE LEGAL ADVICE.

I ve been offered a sublease agreement for a room in a 3 br apartment. The sublease agreement is between myself (sub-tenant) and person X (tenant, with name on the lease). There are 4 names on the lease. Person X, Person X s brother Person Y, and both of their parents, Person A and B. My agreement does not mention anyone besides myself and person X. Is this a problem?

Person X is MOVING OUT in two weeks over 1000 miles away to California, but is keeping his name on the lease. Is it prudent for me to have an agreement with Person X when Person X won t be living in the apartment, nor even in my state?

Person A and B, the parents, DONT live in the apartment. So when I move in it would be me, person Y, and one other unknown subletter. What rights do the parents, person A and B, have over me? What about Person Y, the brother? I don t know if there is already a pre-existing contract between the tenants over who pays what portion of the overall rent for the apartment. Does this effect me?

My fear is that I don t want to sign an agreement with person X, person X moves, just to have Person Y or person A or person B changing things on me via bait and switch, and Person X will be no where to be seen to be brought to civil court to enforce the stipulations of the contract.

SO WHAT DO I DO?
