Should my landlord replace the carpet?

It depends on what kind of landlord you have.

I would never have allowed an apartment to be let with a problem like a carpet that stinks.

Your landlord has many options and so do you.

But the only person who can make a decision is the landlord - so you have to talk to him, if he wont replace it ask him to consider hiring a professional to clean it.

He should but he won't because you signed the lease after seeing the place and smelling the carpet during your walk through.

Why didn't you simply ask him to replace the carpet BEFORE you signed the rental agreement? it is too late now, you will have to put on a face mask, and put on the solution that you planned to put on it when you saw the place.

You will have to sort this one out yourself now.

What they should do as the right thing to do & what they are legally required to do are 2 very different things here.

YES, When you signed the lease & took the keys you legally accepted the unit in the given condition. Yes it is not right & morally wrong to give a tenant a dirty unit but it is not illegal.

Yes they should clean the carpets and you have every right to ask but you have to keep in mind that hey would not be breaking any laws if they refuse.

If they are jerks about this a product called natures miracle works very well on pet odor & stains. They even have an orange scented one that smells good too. You should be able to find it at any petco.

yes he should

I recently had a walk through with a manager at a 2 bedroom apartment in a duplex. At the time of the walk through I noticed that one of the rooms had a gross smell, but I figured I could maybe vacuum it out or put some kind of solution on the carpet. It almost smelled like feces or wet dog... Anyway, I signed the lease and moved in. It wasnt until I was settling into the rooms that I realized I could not be in the room for more than 10 minutes without gagging from the smell...

Do you think my landlord should replace the carpet, clean it, or what?

Will I be expected to pay for this because I already signed the lease and did not say something sooner?

Thanks
