To Rent an Apartment or house?

Posted at: 2015-03-04
If you can afford it, I would make the change.

Here is what won't necessary chance: Do you know if this landlords will fix things?

You were allowed to paint walls at the last place, but you didn't.

It may be louder at the new place? Neighbors? dogs nearby?

2 kittens are overwhelming to you? this won't change...

Does the house overlook a beautiful field?

Utilites are expensive, so just be prepared.

you may not be allowed to paint int he new place.

Meh. There's no new responsibilities that come with renting a home. The home is exactly like the apartment except that it shares nothing with its neighbors. Will you have the freedom to paint in the house?

It's against the Y!A community guidelines to post the same question multiple times. You received some very good answers the last time you posted this question and haven't even bothered to pick a best answer to that one. If you want more answers to the same question at least word it differently, sheesh.

Alright, I need some advice! I currently rent an apartment that includes Water and Heat. I love it! It's quiet, and overlooks a beautiful field! I've been living there for 5+ years. Although I do love it, I am lacking some things. Those things are a washer and dryer and freedom (I love to paint walls and re-do interior aspects of a home and the owners of the home will allow me to do that.) but alas, I am sitting in a white walls one bedroom and one bath. My landlord currently is horrible at fixing things, so I do it myself, and he is the only guy who owns our building.. so I don't have a 24 hour office I can call. I also have two kittens, who are great, but sometimes overwhelming.

I have an opportunity to rent a house. It is a two bedroom, on a small lot, with central air, washer and dryer, and a fenced in yard. It is a little more costly because I am responsible for all utilities (That I know is expected).

At this point of my life, I am in a stable relationship but not looking to move in with him. or him with me but eventually we would like to. I just think I am have outlived apartment living... but then again, I am worried about the new responsibilities that come with renting a home.

Any advice will do :) Thanks!
