Request that he provide a complete list of the damages (not cleaning, actual damages) and go from there. Let him clean the place and take it out of the deposit; any judge would know that cleaning would cost less than $1,450 unless you guys were hoarders.
Now, if the damages are significant, he needs to provide you with estimates and a summary of everything. He cannot take you to court until he provides you with the numbers and you refuse (or simply delay) to pay.
He can sue you for reasonable charges but a judge would decide if it is reasonable or not. It is unlikely he will sue unless you trashed the place so bad that it cannot be fixed with the deposit money.
He has $1,450 of your deposit money and he can use all of that if necessary to get the place cleaned up and suitable to rent. State laws are different but generally if your landlord keeps your deposit and you think it is not fair, you have to sue him to get it back.
Tell him to shove off and don't pay, he won't be able to enforce that ridiculous charge. Worst he could do legally is have it cleaned and send you the bill, but there is no way he can extort a huge daily charge from you. That's it, just ignore, he is probably hoping you will be stupid enough to pay but will eventually give up.
First, you must know the law... Research the tenant landlord laws in your state. Then, beat him to the punch... Go to the local smalls claims court that has juristiction over the address of the rental property (for instance... if the house is in district 2 then go to district court 2 and file a civil lawsuit against the landlord for up to 10000 dollars. In your claim, state the facts, the money he owes you, the threats he made, the damages you wish to receive and serve him the lawsuit... I promise you, within 10 days he will refund your deposit and ask for you to please dismiss the case... which you will. Seriously though, doesn't BS like this make ya wanna go to law school so you can take on all of these jerks? It did me, and everytime I read crap like this about landlords I just want to sue their azzes off! Go research the law and file a correct lawsuit against him in SCC and kick his bully butt down to china town... it ain't that tuff... promise.
He can charge you per day in many states but not more than your normal rent. Take your rent divide by 30 & that's the most per day eh can charge you.
Tell him if he is unhappy with your cleaning job then have someone do it. That is the only way for it to be done to his standards & get done in a timely manner.
It sounds like he is trying to drag this out as long as he can so he can keep charging you. If he does try to sue you you must dispute the charges in court.
he can't do that.

So here the situation. Me and friends rented a house near our college (a lot of college kids in my neighborhood) our deposit was 1450 and we gladly paid. We pay our rent on time every month except one month was one day late. Anyways when we move out the landlord would text us something new to clean everyday. At first we comply with everything. We literally have spent more than 500 out of pocket to clean and etc already. Now he's even asking for more. Even more outrageous is that the landlord said he's charging us 145 per day for he days he is unable to rent the house out due to "dirtiness". He said he's gonna take it from deposit first and after that he's gonna take me and my Roomate to court alone with our parents (our gaurantor). Is there anyway I can seek help??
Please help
