Where can I rent an apartment with my rottweiler?

I've been around a Rottie like that, just a big ol' puppy even well into adulthood, but they sure are intimidating to look at. It is often very difficult for large dog owners to find rentals... I couldn't imagine having that playful thing stuck in an apartment. I would plan one or two 'househunter' trips and take the dog with you. Even though a lot of leases will specifically exclude certain breeds, once a landlord meets the dog they might overlook it. You don't want to sign any papers or wait until the last minute anyway, so you kill two birds with one dog... erm... I mean stone.

It is very hard to rent an apartment with a big dog of any breed and many will specifically restrict rotties. Most apartments only allow dogs 25 lb & under. Very few may allow up to 50lb but will be very hard to find anyone to allow an 80lb dog of any breed. If anyone does allow it expect to pay a hefty pet deposit. All you can do is search for pet frindly properties, call & ask them what their size & breed restrictions are. Any that will take a rottie are few & far between.

Unless she is a certified companion or service animal for a documented medical issue there is nothing you can do to force any landlord to allow her.

An apt locator can help you easily.

When a landlord gets homeowners insurance, there is usually a clause that restrict "dangerous breeds". Rots are number 2 on that list. Pits being number one.

No landlord CAN rent to you if their insurance prohibits "dangerous breeds".

anywhere where it is pet friendly

I am relocating to Albany NY within the next few months to attend Graduate School and am having a very hard time finding an apartment that will allow my rottweiler. I currently own a home, and luckily have insurance that doesn't need-discriminate. My dog is about 80 pounds, and thinks that she is a lap dog. She is trained, attends doggie daycare, and loves humans and animals of all ages and breeds. She has never ever nipped at anyone, and has never been aggressive. She shares toys, food and everything with other animals. Does anyone have any ideas on how to find a place? My boyfriend and I are young professionals, and I can't even imagine not being able to bring Cali to Albany with us. Thanks for any information, it's greatly appreciated!
