You're being way being over eager, SEO is a slow process, those services offering fast results use manipulative methods that may harm ranking in the long term. You probably have to build overall site authority, A new site with no history is harder to rank and can't take on the number of new back-links that a 1 year old site can.
You would probably want to continue to add perhaps 2 backlinks a day for now to play it safe. Make a list of 20 or more target keywords to also rank for, and incorporate them naturally in original content.

if this is a local business looking for walk in customers, the most important and quick to get ranking is in Google local map listings that have the stick-pin symbols, one must have a verifiable business address,te ranking of the main business site seems to be the bigger local page ranking factor, at one time citations on business directories, etc. and user reviews were the big factors.

There are lots of factors work behind the keywords. Competitors are also working to get this keyword with their site on first page...!!!
Much of Jake's answer is correct. But also look for the websites that rank highly for your chosen keywords. Many will be directories like Yellow Pages and you are never going to outrank them so just make sure that you are listed in them...

Hi guys i have submitted a website to google about 2 weeks ago.
it is for skip hire in a small town
i have completed some seo work on it that i have read from blogs.
the majority of the websites that rank highest for my keywords "skip hire walsall" dont have any seo work done for there sites at all.
But my website is still ranked on like page 4, im even after websites that have nothing to do with skip hire and are there by accident
i have submitted the site to the major directories too.
so why is my ranking so low? am i being over eager? will it move up the rankings on its own?
