It gives you the opportunity to stretch your skills without worrying about hosting issues, hostmatrix.org which is owned by a uk-based man, offers all of the advantages of the shared hosting paid hosting environment for way less cost. Sure you don't get as much space and you have to post on their forum, but it's free. Some highlights:
No Forced Ads, they don't force advertisements on your website to make money.
Full Site backups in a round robin scheme, just post on the forum that your site got wasted (if you have problems) and request that they reverse it from a back up, they keep 3 backups per site, and it's always recent back ups.
Domain option, host your domain with them, they allow you to use their name servers and add your domain to the account, so that it looks more professional, otherwise you just get a subdomain from their domains.
Get an add-on dedicated ip so you can use a ssl certificate and you can get a cheap $12.99 godaddy ssl to put on your account or go with a free option at rapidssl or some other site.
All in all, there are free resources out there to help you get started and looking professional, check them out before wasting your money! :)
host gator is my personal favorite. you get the best value for your money as far as features and services that are offered. there are however other hosting companies that are as low as $1.99 per month. i'll post a link for you below so you can read more about cheap web hosting and see the top 10 providers.

Try web hosting at Fargodomains.com . They're reasonable and affordable.
You should check http://www.limespace.net out. Been using them since 2 years and they're really good. The best part is, they do not over sell like the other hosts mentioned above. Good luck!

Hostagator is good but might be a bit pricey for what you are looking for.
