It's extremely implausible that Visa or Mastercard are bona fide sponsors, they are probably asking this as a way to screen out people who are unlikely to be able to pay the DirectBuy membership fee of several thousand dollars.
It sounds like you've seen many of the negative reviews of DirectBuy. As for positive reviews, a lot of people feel that, even if these are bona fide reviews by DirectBuy members, DirectBuy may be soliciting its members to post such reviews, and members may go along with it, hoping it will help them to get their order expedited or otherwise give them some kind of special consideration in handling of their orders.
Did anyone attend this 90 min review and receive the dinner gift card valued at $100 and the two round trip air fare tickets anywhere USA?
check with directbuy, do not believe called id or what the caller claimed. They may not even have sweepstakes ...
I wish I could afford to sue DirectBuy for deceptive and false sweepstakes advertising. I live in Jacksonville FL. and when I became involve with their scam is when I entered a sweepstakes on Facebook linking to a Directbuy sweepstakes for a $50 thousand dollar cash grand prize towards home improvement.
I get a call from a representative claiming his name was Phillip today from this number 1-855-841-6092. He tells me that he is a Directbuy representative and his company has reviewed my entry and I am a finalist and he just need to confirm two pieces of information,#1. I make at least $50 thousand a year, #2. I've used a debit or credit card to pay for my purchases this year.
This is where the wall goes up, legally the fine print does state you will be contacted by a Directbuy representative to confirm you are the winner or second runner up in case the winner is unable to be contacted and they forfeit their prize.
Phillip proceeds to tell me that I have to confirm my identity in person for my entry with 2 forms of id (drivers license and check book) for my "prize" and that I HAD to bring my husband to 9454 Phillips Hwy Jacksonville to collect my prize otherwise I would be disqualified from the sweepstakes. Mind you I had only entered without my husband information. Who the hell needs a check book to confirm identity, I told him that was a bullshit reason. LOL!
He then tells me I need to present a confirmation number that he has given me to confirm our conversation and I will be given a complementary dinning card and a chance to win a choice of $25 thousand cash, Caribbean cruise, a car or air plain tickets to the choice of destination, if I remember to bring this confirmation number. This is where he has blown the conversation.
He then tells me I need to make an appointment time to come in to process my information as a finalist and if I am 10 minutes late I forfeit my entry to the current sweepstakes. Mind you I read the contest rules... This is where I believe that the Directbuy Jacksonville base location should be held accountable and sued, when you enter their sweepstakes there is no disclosure that states you are limited to or subject to any appointment time or for any type of discrimination.
Their representatives should not be allowed to give false statements regarding the actual sweepstakes. If their intent was to bring me into their office to hear a speal about their company's services then they should be direct about their intent, rather ADDING additional rules to the actual sweepstakes.. Apparently their company can only gain business by luring their victims into their location because they have developed a reputation of deceiving and apparently they continue to work very well to maintain that image.
What made this experience even worse is that when I told him I was bringing my children with me to collect my "Prize" he stated that I could not and that if I did I would be disqualified. I told the man, hey if you called me to say I'm a finalist in Directbuys $50 thousand dollar cash grand prize and I have to confirm my identity in person and I confirm an appointment because your telling me my entry will be disqualified if I don't, you cannot limit me because I have little ones. I said that excuse only adds to your false advertising. He then hung up on me. Hah! Did that offend him? LOL!
I should sue this particular location for discrimination and intimidation. Because of Phillips continued statements indicating my original entry would be disqualified if I did not follow his instructions to a tee was to me intimidation and fraud. Limiting my access to receive a deceptive prize ( the dinner gift card and a chance to play their other bullshit games) because I have children was discrimination.
I am well aware of what their all about and was willing to waste my time to turn down their services in person and hey get a gift card for wasting my time. I already know the little tricks they use to bully you into signing their contract. But because this company representative has shown me discrimination towards bringing my children only because it would be a distraction to their staff, well that is full of crap! LOL!
So if you are a lawyer in the Jacksonville area that knows how to fight these kind of deceptive and manipulative business and would like to challenge a case or just want to be a reminder with this particular location it shouldn't be cheep for them to continue with their deceptive practices I would love to help you. :)
I just got a call from directbuy saying I had won a sweepstakes and I was one of the finalists. I have to attend a 90 min tour and before its over I will be given a key to see if I won 25,000 shopping spree or 25,000 cash. but just for going I won a 3 day 2 night at any place I want from the options given. I gave them my name and husbands name and also they wanted to know if I didn't make less than 4000 a month because to qualify I have to atleast make 4000. I just told them I make a lil over but I didn't give exact info because im kinda skeptical. but I got told to show up tomorrow wit the husband and our IDs. also I got asked if I had a visa or mastercard. they think ask any info they just wanted to know since the SPONSORS are visa and mastercard and want to know if the winners use their cards. I just told them I used a debit card from visa but that's it. I DID NOT give them any ss info nor address or anything just our names and my email. has anybody been through this? after I hung up I felt bad for even participating in the call because I feel scammed. I think im going to call tomorrow and tell them not to bother me im not interested. I feel nervous and scared now because I feel like I was soo stupid enough to even give them that small piece of info and scared they could do something with it. I have read directbuy is a scam?
