The consensus from several people's comments is on average you make very little money for your time, most surveys are marketer tools designed to get you to buy more stuff.
Doing real productive work is most likely to earn you money, could be as simple as writing web site articles, starting at about $3 per 500 word article at broker sites like iWriter.com or textbroker.com.
If you have some marketable design, programming or writing-translation skills you might find short term work at one of the freelance worker marketplaces like Odesk.com and Elance.com
Elance.com alone reports their (mostly skilled) workers earned $285 Million in 2013

Odesk.com has about 420 different qualification tests which can help someone with no track record of completed projects to win job bids

NO! I have had a very bad experience with online surveys, didn't get a penny out of the thousands of euros work i did for a company.
well its depends, its a market place where all kind of people exist so you have to work smartly first do the background check, start with little time investment and for being a time try to be in touch with more companies, finally make a final list of the companies with there parameters of payments for your work done w.r.t your strengths.

Almost nothing per hour. You can earn some pocket change but you would be better off spending that time elsewhere.
YES, ONLINE SURVEY SITE PAY,
Some people make a few bucks, but you would be spending less with something like this
