biz is dynamic; thus, both ways!!
For me, it works both ways BUT - we shape advertising first, and THEN it shapes us. When people grow tired of the same cliche advertising ideas, businesses are forced to become more creative and think out of the box. In this process, they shape the advertising industry using innovative techniques. When the public sees their work, it influences them to feel and think in new ways too. There are various advertising agencies out there like promomatting.com who uses ingenious methods to promote businesses and/or products. Think about those strategies you first thought was odd (like promo mugs, company mats, sticker logos, etc) and see how far they've come now. People eventually embrace change. Advertising must grow in order to challenge us; and in the process, we also challenge ourselves.
In today's competitive world advertising has become the most important part of business. To exposure the product on broad level we have to give shape it different ways.
