Does it cost money to sell things on ebay?

do i have to pay per item to sell it? or just possibly for shipping?

Generally speaking you will have to pay if you elect to upload more than 1 image per item. (They give you 1 for free, each additional I believe is about $0.10). If anything costs additional money, it will be listed on the page. eBay will take a percentage of what you earn from your sale and keep if for themselves and you will also front charges for shipping if you don't charge the buyer the full amount.

To make it simple and easy to understand...

You have a paypal account which is connected to your ebay account, paypal is what you will use to collect your money from the buyer as well (do not accept personal checks or anything & make sure you get an OFFICIAL email from paypal before you mail out the product to the buyer).

When you sell something paypal will take a SMALL fee for using there services, very small and minimal. Also, you will obviously have to pay to ship the product out the buyer however no it does not directly cost money to sell things on ebay, you only spend $ when you make $ from the site.

Try a easier site if your product is quick to sell such as Craigslist & Backpage but same rules apply...Make sure you meet the person in a public place and trade CASH in hand for product!

It is free to list things, which means if it doesn't sell, you don't pay. If you do sell, there is a 9% final value fee per item for the cost of the item and 9% fee on whatever you charged for shipping. There are also additional fees if you choose to add additional photos (you typically get one free) and if you add anything fancy to the page, like backgrounds and such.

Paypal also takes 2.9% of the total selling price including shipping

Yes, if you sell something they take a cut (you pay automatically from your PayPal account). You also pay if you want to add anything to make your listing (ad) stand out (more pictures, bolder heading in the list, etc.). You also always pay for shipping - either through eBay when you print a shipping label, or when you bring the item to the post office to send it (if you didn't buy and print a shipping label).
