if your name is exactly john smith that you have not choice, other wise try john-smith, john smith design etc etc . make sure it is .com as well
Maybe you can try your name as .info.
Also, domain name from seo point of view, johncsmith.net or johnsmithjr.com nothing do help your seo ranking in search engines. You buy any one of them, properly set up the site, get some backlinks, then it will rank well in Google, Yahoo! Bing also.
Another factor is that domain name shorter seem more worthy. Go for a shorter one you like, not we like since it is your personal web design portfolio.

You seem to be spending an excessive amount of time and effort on a minor detail: is it relevant that you are a junior??
if you go for the change of domain name its not practically feazable so I would like to suugest you that use the tools key words related to your product
So I have a very common name and my name as a .com was taken years ago.
