My advice is to be careful who you approach with your idea. There are companies out there who are after taking advantage of people with ideas but all they want to do it rip you off. The best thing to do is to look for free advice and support, yes it does exist.
This website gives you all the answers you need to all the stages of getting your invention made into a product. Better yet you can do it all yourself so you don't need to pay for services from other companies.
Here's one major challenge of making an idea an invention: is it something the people want or are aware of enough to want...
You should make sure you're clear that the idea is something people want. Inventors often invent for the sake of inventing something and sometimes it works out though often rarely. Usually inventors who succeed are those who create something a specific group of people really want, need or desire badly.
If your idea solves that pressing emotion need and want, finding people to help you make the idea happen is easier than you think. The key is to make sure you're actually talking to the people who really want what you invent and tell you the serious problems that they face.
I strongly recommend you read the Brain Audit by Sean D'Souza [1] for an exceptionally clear idea of how to do this.
Major challenge two: has it already been done or built by someone already...
You have to be sure to avoid copyright infringement or a future lawsuit. So do your research and homework - figure out if someone has done something exactly like what you're intending to invent or something similar. Find a good patent lawyer who can help you determine if there's the potential for lawsuits down the road.
I can recommend a personal contact from Harvard at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP Barristers and Solicitors; Patent and Trade-mark Agents if you're interested. [2, 4]
You can research patents right now at the US Patent and Trademark Office (http://www.uspto.gov/).
Major challenge three: do you have the resources to make it happen...
If your idea solves a pressing problem and emotional need then you should find it easier to get enough money to build your invention. It could be your local Chamber of Commerce or it could be as far as angel investors. Regardless expect that you could be fronting and putting in a lot of your money and time - anywhere from $5000-10,000 minimum at least unless you have rich investors to back you. [3]
A good listing to find angel investors in Canada and the United States is on the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) web site - http://www.angelinvestor.ca/Find_Angels....
Whenever possible seek good advice where you can. Here's one site you helpful FAQ at Ask the Inventors (http://www.asktheinventors.com/faq.html)...
In addition you can find other inventors to give you useful tips and mentorship at an Inventor Club local chapter of the United Inventors Association of America (http://www.uiausa.org/inventor-clubs).
Remember that once you disclose your idea you loose the ability to patent and therefore protect your idea. There are a number of resources on the internet but be careful. Many will look to take up to 50% of any revenue that results from your idea.
Take a look at www.investinmyinvention.com for some funding ideas to enable you to pursue your idea.
Good luck!
please contact with some one who can established your idea.
I have a great idea and it hasnt been invented yet. How can I get in contact with someone that will help me make my idea an invention?
