I don't think that many bookmark seekers search for "handmade bookmarks", might not prove to be the strongest keyword, not only the search volume and resulting clicks matters, the sales conversion rates of some keywords are higher than others.
The Google keyword tool shows you actual search volume states for relate keywords.

You know about the hand crafted item marketplace Etsy.com ?
(40 cent per item listing fee, 6% of any sales)
(There are some 435,000 sellers there, it pays to be unique)
Well... not sure if the idea of selling bookmarks is viable (since most of the people don't read these days, and even more don't read books)
I've googled where can I buy handmade bookmarks and a pinterest, ebay, and etsy.com poped up.
So suggestion would be to create catalogue with your bookmarks on these sites.
The general idea of getting traffic revolves around understanding where you client will be looking for your product and advertise yourself in this place.
Now back to the general guides.
There are 3 options of getting traffic to your website - SEM, SMM, and SEO.
1. Search engine marketing.
Run campaigns on Google Adwords and Bing Ads.
Simple but costly. At some point you will be getting only half money back on what you've spent.
2. Social media marketing.
Cheap in terms of money, expensive in terms of time investment.
Create groups on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest (in case of your product, start from Pinterest)
and post pictures there. Find communities who are into reading and advertise among them.
3. SEO

I guess you need more back links to get to the first page of Google. How about your website design? Is it good enough? How about the contents? Aside from off page SEO, you also need to look at the On page SEO methods that you are using.
it seems that the ranking of your website is increasing. Below I am trying to focus on few important things which will help you to increase ranks, brand reputation and traffics.
-Find the Niche Blog Writer and post guest blog posting there
-Create Youtube Channel, Facebook page, slideshare accounts and other Famous Social Sharing Site.
-Use Social Bookmarking Sites. (during posting focus on the time when you will get maximum visitors online)
-Focus on Image Media, Image can attract more. Pinterest is one of the strongest Image media for these days.

I know it.
Hi, I made an online business last month after many months of deliberation. It's mariahsmusings.com
On this site, I sell my handmade bookmarks, and I post a new design every Thursday and a new blog post every weekend. So far, I've had a little over 200 total views, and I'm sure a lot of those came from me. I also got one order a couple of weeks ago, which I'm very happy about. Now that I put the site together, I'm focusing on marketing/advertising it.
So far, I've told my Facebook friends about it, put up business cards at local libraries, put up a Facebook ad (I got a $50 ad credit when I made the site, I put it up last night and so far no clicks), and have just been trying to get the word out. I tried SEO for the first blog post but I still know barely anything about it, and it feels unnatural to use SEO rather than just write. I know that I probably won't have a considerable amount of traffic for another year or so, but I'm just looking for new ideas to implement.
On Google, when I search "handmade bookmarks", my site is usually on about the 5th page. It hovers between the 4th and the 6th page. A week after I made my site, it was on the 15th page, so I'm definitely making progress there.
Please, if you can, take a look at my site, tell me any suggestions, etc. Thank you so much in advance.
