Is carhistory.us.org legit?

I have found the majority of the reviews are positive, with only a couple negative reviews.

My research shows that you must contact a manager to get a refund, although sometimes this can take up to 48 hours. Email contact details: manager@carhistory.us.org

I recommend only buying the one dollar report and not the volume discount package to ensure you only pay $1.

THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM. I've attempted to post negative reports to TrustPilot and a couple of other sites, but they've been removed or I've been unsuccessful. I paid for a Report on Jan 20, 2014; and ended up with a whole slew of fraudulent bank charges on Monday Jan 24, which means they timed the charges over the weekend so they wouldn't appear until the next business day. I've just read other reviews, even positive ones. Yes, it's $1.00 and you're provided with info, most of it seemingly current or otherwise useless, but just enough to appear genuine. You're also asked to provide a review early in the experience so if you're waiting to hear back from "Brian - the manager who is great" then your review is only based on partial information. Oh, let's not forget the $20 Amazon gift card you're promised if you review and then send an email stating that you've just submitted the review. I received an acknowledgment email about the "card was sent" but never got a response when I asked if it would be sent in the mail or via email. Red flags went up for me when I had additional questions during the process and clicked on the LiveChat, not once but twice. And guess what, I received the exact responses verbatim and had to repeat the same information. And the additional information I received was already in the report. It did come by email and when I tried to reply I kept getting auto responses that were dead emails. There is no "Andy" who is pictured on the website standing by, ready and able to help you out. And how many different sites does a company really have to direct you to?! As I said - it's a SCAM. And here's why. The moment the $1.00 charge hit my bank account, so did a whole lot of other charges. I'm fortunate that I'm not loaded otherwise I'd be out thousands of dollars. There were several charges made by Zoosk (online dating) and multiple attempts by a theatrical company called "OneLive." Thankfully I carefully watch my bank account, and contacted my bank on Monday when everything started to post as pending - that's when I also learned about $1000s that were unsuccessfully attempted. My bank could easily tell they were fraudulent charges, are reversing all charges and investigating. So this is a warning - watch your bank accounts carefully and I would recommend changing your debit card asap.

NOT JUST $1 - IT"S A SCAM .........Well I got suckered just like a few others. I was impressed with their report although I only wanted just a few of the inquires they offered and just a one time report. The report was nicely laid out and had a professional feel to the web site. I am now receiving a $18.95 charge to my credit card per month. My wife paid the first one thinking I owed it, even though I had told her it was a dollar and to watch for other charges. I guess if I paid that for the report, I will have to just deal with it. But now they sent another charge for $18.95 this month........No way! I will call the credit card company and have them deal with it as I only wanted one report for the advertised $1, ..........I should have been more careful, for a person like a dealership selling used cars it would probably be a great service but they are conning people like me who just want one report with the "$1" report.

SCAM. SCAM. SCAM. I was expecting the $1 charge and was instead charged the $18.95. Then they said they would refund back the $18.95 within 5-7 business days. Still didn't happen. So they finally told me that we're having problems getting the refund to go through and instead will send me a check- but that will take 4-6 weeks!! DO NOT USE THEM!

The carhistory.us.org site offers some useful information not supplied by general database searches, as well as advice and auto assessment terms for non-gov't/auto insurance plebes. The report they provided me with wasn't entirely consistent, and did incur suspect later fees (nominal or not.) Keep a close eye on your bank account charges (as always!) Keep in mind that us.org is a domain name that anyone can buy, and does not infer non-profit or gov't status.

For a buck and change, it's worth the investment-- just watch your bank statements (as always!) for the next couple wks.

Other useful resources (cheaper than the $40 carfax) are

https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awa...

Read through their terms and conditions to see if there is a higher priced "full information" upgrade, that would be a common trick.

Complaint about being billed for $9.95, getting offered insurance and getting a junk cluttered report,

us.org is a fishy new TLD that makes it had to research the site owner information.

THey give no address in the contact us page, not a good sign, their terms of service mention passing your information to insurance companies and further says:

"All reports and information made available through the Website are derived from public records and databases, and should not necessarily be relied upon."

The report is fine, but it is difficult to avoid signing up for recurring credit card charges. They say that by clicking "Submit" you are agreeing to all their terms and conditions. Page two of the terms and conditions, usually point 12 or 13, says you are agreeing to monthly charges. They are rated D- by the BBB and are under investigation. They have many similar websites for all kinds of $1 reports. See: http://www.bbb.org/edmonton/business-rev...

it is not a 1.00 they charged me 18.95 but I am only paying 1.00

I never gave them card info. because they would not answer my questions on live chat. I was very skeptical and went so far as to ask if I was talking to a live person or a bot. They said they were live but would not answer any questions. I was shocked at what I found when looking for independent info. about carhistory.us.org.

Stay away unless you enjoy taking risks.

When you finally catch on to these bottom feeders there more than happy to refund the last charge but they don't want to give the rest back of course. I expressed to this poor excuse for a human being about how I found them on multiple scam alert websites and she was like ok I'll give you 2 months then 3 months then 4 months. yeah I got the **** stuttering. It was clear to her I was super pissed. They got me for 10 months !!!!Then she said I had to contact her manager for previous refunds. FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD !!!!!!!!

I am looking at a 2004 Jeep from a private seller and I want make sure the vehicle is good before buying it. I have used Carfax in the past but I found carhistory.us.org has $1 reports.

Does anyone know if they have good reports?

No, it is not. I can't believe I fell for it. Fist they said "free". Next it was $1 (to cover database updates). Then, after certain options it was $3.45. Finally, when I concluded my transaction (I was looking for signs of other charges) I looked at my credit card and they charged me $18.95. I immediately chatted with their support and told them if they did not credit my account immediately I was going to report it as fraud. They replied saying they were going refund me immediately, though they said I agreed to paying some fee for "joining". DO NOT MESS WITH THIS SITE! Now I am going to have to watch my card daily for fraudulent charges.
