Is it OK to be firm with a customer?

No!

That's not firm that's disrespectful.

I think you need to talk to other staff members and ask them about the difference between firm and rude. See if they will take you on some basic assertiveness training so that you can learn to be firm without being rude.

Next time someone asks you if a product is from China remember it's your job to be helpful not judgmental. They're the customers - your job security depends on them parting with the cash, not parting on bad terms.

Haha! I wouldn't be offended but I think you should try to be more diplomatic because not everyone is that understanding. Try something more along the lines of "Yes sir, there are very few products nowadays that do not have Chinese components - they are certainly the world leaders in production of ( insert product here) - and you can be assured that this product is of the highest quality" . Good luck though, I understand your frustrations!

that's not firm, that's rude. and it will cost you a customer. and if it costs you enough customers, it could cost you your job.

just answer the customer's question. they're asking you the provenance of the merchandise. it's not a personal attack on you, no reason to be upset about it. it's not going to kill you to be civil when you tell them.

Ask your boss.

Ask your supervisor if it's ok to be rather rude to a customer.

ok you are fired.

I get annoyed when a customer asks me if a product is from China. I want to say "yes! and it's good as a Panda Express food!" And it's not a knock off. Can I say that to a customer?
