"Online scams to watch out for
Requests to use money transfer services like Western Union, Ukash or MoneyGram.
These services are not meant for transactions between strangers. In our experience, they’re favoured by fraudsters. Fraudsters use different ways to trick people into using these services. One popular trick is to ask you to prove that you have funds by sending money to a friend or relative via these services and show them the receipt. All they need is the tracking number from your receipt and they’ll be able to collect your money. Any requests by strangers to use these services in any way should sound off alarm bells and shouldn’t be followed."

It doesn't matter whose name you send the money to through Western Union or Moneygram. All that scammer needs is a copy of the receipt to pick up the money. WU and MG overseas DO NOT check IDs as these scammers are in countries where most people do not have any photo ID. You think you are sending to your friend Jane Doe but Adewale Eko in Nigeria or Natalya Putin in Russia can pick up that money as long as they know the transaction number listed on your receipt
Are you nuts?
Of course this is a scam.
Old, old scam.
The person advertising does not own the place.
Just a picture he/she is using.
Never dare rent a place without doing a full walk through first.
YES IT IS VERY POSSIBLE...
Meet them face to face and show them that you have the money. Renting a house is serious business and if they are serious about it they should be more professional than that. They could possibly use the transaction number to redeem the money as a mistake etc...
YES
ANYTHING that mentions western-union or moneygram is ALWAYS a scam
(it just beats me why people are so gullible
they ask you to send money to prove you have money
Where is your proof that they own the flat?
Cos they said so and you believe them?)
NEVER send money to anyone. I would say this is a scam. Most honest people have a way of doing business without having to ask you to send money ANYWHERE.
Yes it is a scam. if you are looking for a flat to rent try Rightmove or Zoopla they have genuine places with genuine landlords and letting agents
It's a well known SCAM!
DO NOT under any circumstances, send them any money!
Yes it is.
Theyre just trying to get you to send them the money without any intention of renting any property to you.
i think you should look for someone who is closer to their flats because this is a risk you might regret so just stick to looking for another person who you can give ur deposit to and get a recept from because its very important that you have proof of giving them a deposit and the name of that person "ask for their card"
this just screams A Scam
Okay so I have been looking for a flat to rent, and been looking on Gumtree and Friday ad and 2 people have said to me that because they live away from where the apartment that they own is that I have to prove I have the deposit and months rent is by sending the money to one of my friends or relatives by west union or Money gram post office and scanning the receipt or telling them the details like transaction number on the receipt is this A scam?
Thanks
It's a SCAM!
Are you really as stupid as you sound?
