A tech blog... Hmm i have a domain name that you might want which I am not using but I am willing to sell. I own and it is http://ctrlshift.org
It's an aged domain name with a lot of web authority, meaning i had a tech website before with links to it. You can take it for $150 if you like. Renewal is about 10 bucks a year.
There are sites with tools that help you come up with fictitious names, including: wordlab.com, naming.net, wordoid.com, lingzini.com, namestation.com, domainsBot.com some of these tools look up the domain name availability as you go.
If you find an available .com name, there's a high probability that it' not a trademarked name.
I don't know if those "free" domain names are legitimate ones in some hosting bundle deal or if your talking about the more obscure TLDs that popup offering free names, those free domain names can be search ranking poison. One example, Google removed all 11 Million .cc.co names from their index after observing a high incidence of fraud related to these easy to get poorly managed names. You may be better of just using fa free host subdomain than one of these names.
How can you get a domain suggestion when we have no clue what you do?
A domain centered around used cars would be a good one for someone want to promote mens panties.
Use a competitors domain name, but change to .net, .us, .info ...... Then set up to transfer all hits to your web site.
