Sounds like you cold have more than yet another delusional "good idea", the bigger payoff may come from carrying the ball a bit farther and marketing the product yourself, so they may approach you to buy your company, rather than a more abstract patent.

It may be worth watching some episodes of Sharktank (on youtube?) to see how products are pitched to investors. Sites like Kickstarter can get something off the ground as well as getting some publicity.

I just saw a PBS profile on Quirky.com a crowd sourcing product inception site. There are some 400k free members, and a $10 submission fee, they featured a flexible power strip that accommodates a mix of wall warts, some inventor royalties have amounted to $600,000.

What's a "5 year patent"? Most countries issue patents for 20 years from the date of filing the application. I have also heard of 6, 8, 10, 14 and 17-year patents, of various types in different countries, but not 5.

When you say "anywhere around the world", surely you realize that your patent is only valid in a country where it was issued. Someone in any other country can make and sell it without your permission.
