You want to look at more product fundraising rather than event fundraising because selling products can earn you more money for your prom. First off a question to ask yourself, is the prom committee the only people going to sell the product or is it the whole junior or senior class? The more people (i.e. seniors/people) you get the more potential you have to raise more funds.
One product that is very popular with schools and group fundraising is selling Rada Cutlery kitchen items. Rada is 100% made in the USA and offers knives, stoneware, cookbooks, quick mixes, and soy wax candles. As sellers you earn 40% of what you sell to use for prom. These are high quality items for the best dollar; teachers, you can go face to face to sell to family, teachers, and friends. Especially with holidays coming, the knives are great for gifts. I am also a buyer of Rada knives and I love them.

FYI - Rada Mfg. Co. has been helping groups fundraise since 1948 and last year helped over 19,000 schools, churches, clubs, and youth groups raise money.
Good luck with your prom and fundraising!
Hi Kenzi!
There are plenty of fundraising ideas out there, however, some will just waste your time and energy. First thing when choosing a fundraiser is picking one that provides VALUE to the people who will be supporting your group. Meaning, the fundraising product is well worth the money that is given by the people. You will get far more "yes's" than "no's". Take candy bars or cookie dough, do these products provide value to customers? No. Most people have no need for these and in most cases, these products are way too over-priced - and people now that.
In my experience (especially in High School), a fundraising product that works and works well (providing the most value to people) is fundraising discount cards. A good discount card fundraiser (and only a high quality one, NOT a low-quality discount card fundraiser) can have people begging you for one. Do your research and find a product that provides good value for the hard-earned dollars that you're asking for. In the end, you will raise a whole lot more and that is what it's all about.
Try selling something that your supporters will actually want. Not products that they can get on their own right down the street and usually for a cheaper price. A very good product that gives value to supporters is fundraising cards. The thing about fundraising discount cards is that the supporters save well more than what they actually paid for the card. Xtraman Fundraising has the industries best fundraising cards should you decide to go with a discount card fundraiser - and it doesn't cost anything upfront... Good luck!
You could order school supplies with your school name on it, i.e pencils, notebooks, pencil bags, etc. or maybe sports jackets with your schools name & year. For example, if your school was J.F. Kennedy High School, it might say "Kennedy '12." This depends on when you need it, though. But you can order them in incriments of 100, 200 or so and sell them.
I am on prom comitee at my school and we are stumped on fundraisers. So far we already have done magazines, candy bars, Christmas reefs, and school name bracelets. Any more ideas? Nothing that will be incredibly expensive please
