you need target some keywords that have traffic, goto adwords.com to pick up some keywords that people actually searches.
Your best option by far is Social Media Traffic. Not many know this by Facebook gets more traffic than google in the U.S. So while everyone is focused on SEO and Google, a smart person would learn how to generate traffic from Facebook. Even Twitter is a great source for traffic too. I opened a new Twitter account 3 days ago and I already have almost 200 followers.
If you spent a whole day on Twitter, you could easily get yourself a couple of thousand follows so long as you keep using plenty of high traffic #HashTags that are relevant to your niche in your tweets. You can also follow tons of people too but be careful with this because Twitter doesn't like mass following and you could get your account banned. The magic number of followers is no more than 1800. When you have over 2000 people following you, then you can follow more people.
When you have a few 1000 followers, every single tweet will send traffic your way.
Now Facebook is not as easy. So many people have tried to unlock the social traffic behind facebook but few have found the right strategy. I know one guy who has called Austin Walsh. He's only 21 years old and he has proven himself as the Facebook go-to-guy. He's currently teaching people how to build 200k people communities in facebook with a Training series called FB Traffic Engine. I know you said your out of cash but it's literally being offered at about $39 which is amazingly cheap for what he's teaching. I promise you, this strategy of his WILL bring lots of traffic to your website and to be honest, once you see this course you might even decide that you don't need a website because Facebook is good enough on it's own for most people now believe it or not.
