You can use both - Facebook updates can be auto published to Google + using HootSuite. Be careful though, as you are technically just scraping an RSS feed which is not always what social media followers want to see.

Publish original content to whatever social platform you use and incorporate a bit of small talk into your updates to show people you are also a person!

When people use the phrase "social media" I always substitute that phrase for "keep it real".

Twitter is good also, but there is a lot of noise there. If you can cut through the masses of mediocre attention seeking that goes on there, good for you. It takes work and persistence, and I would agree with the person who mentioned keeping it simple to begin with.

I would prefer going with Facebook for the time being. However I will make a suggestion here that either if you cant maintain 2 profiles at the same time, try registering for Google+ as well and update it few times a week as it can take the crowd its way in near future.
