The other day at work, in the wee hours of the morning, some heartless person abandoned a new puppy in the middle of a four-lane street. The poor thing was yelping and crying with fear when they forced it out of their car into the middle of the street. I was too far off to get the license plate when they sped away, but I picked up the poor thing, called an ex-girlfriend animal-lover friend of mine at 3:00 a.m., and she adopted it. I saved the dam thing and got it a really good home. And other stuff like that happens occasionally on the job, and those are the fulfilling moments that count in service to the community.
