Maybe its your rich uncle who lives in Nigeria. He wants to either lend you alot of money or ask you to accept your inheritance... believe me I know!
Almost certainly a 'robo call', that is a call dialled automatically by the system in the office that's calling you, not by a human. Places which make high volumes of calls use these a lot and they can't always manage to get a human in place to speak when you answer, so the line just goes dead. These can be very annoying and distressing. There are regulations now to limit their use. However call centres overseas don't have to take any notice of UK regulations. Debt collecting firms make heavy use of robo calls, but if that was the case here you'd probably know, so it will just be some random outfit of advertising cold callers. Calling the number back is unlikely to work, the number probably won't accept incoming calls.

My house phone rings and rings off before I pick up the number is 02431 5564 Any ideas? seems to be from over seas? I don't want to call it back in case its a con of some sort!
