I always figured it's because they don't have enough faith in their product to advertise it; they have to throw a bunch of flashy distracting stuff out there to disguise how lame their product actually is. - Like GEICO. When is the last time you heard a GEICO commercial talking about how good their insurance is? I don't remember any commercial that GEICO has made that is about the actual insurance. Instead they use/used a gecko, a pig, cavemen, and 2 singing guys to get your attention. And that's appropriate for them because their insurance is terrible.
They want you to remember the commercial and the product in it.
Because men like don draper aren't around any more
Seeing an ad where the car does flips and jumps over a ramp doesn't make me want to buy the car at all.
Seeing that AT&T commercial where the cute kids are asked stupid questions is funny. But that doesn't change AT&T's horrible connection in my city. The Taco Bell commercials that show a bunch of frat guys going crazy over one mediocre size taco makes me glad they never have Mexicans in their commercials, we eat 3-5 of em', and real ones too.
My point being I would appreciate a company who has a customer and his testimony in front of the tv and just say it. "Our product is one of the best out there. Sure it's a little pricey but we do offer free customer services, returns, and exchanges at no charge." just generally say the truth. I don't need a multimilion dollar ad of a hamster driving a damn car blasting rap music. I just want someone to tell me their product does what it says it does and nothing more.
